Spain is one of the leading sporting countries of the World.
The main sports played and followed in Spain are Football, Tennis, Basketball, Cycling, Motorcycling & Formula 1.
The great tourism appeal and the good weather has caused an improvement of the sports infrastructure, especially for golf water sports and skiing.
Golf in Spain: Spain is synonymous with golf. It is a top destination for lovers of the sport, whatever your level or handicap. Spain is the ideal place for you to play your favourite sport for many different reasons.
These are some of our strong points:
> Privileged climate: In Spain you will find sun and warm temperatures all year round, not just in summer. These excellent weather conditions, good visibility, gentle winds and pleasant overall climate are ideal for golf, guaranteeing a good, long season.
> Courses for all tastes: Golf in Spain is getting more and more popular. It has 313 courses located close to all major cities, as well as in coastal & mountain areas.
> Prices: Spanish courses have competitive prices; they are hugely varied and cater to all kinds of requirements: in a small area you will find courses with very different characteristics, meaning you have a host of options.
Water sports in Spain: Boating, sailing, surfing, windsurfing, jet-skis, scuba diving, kite surfing - whatever you go for you will enjoy the warm water temperature!!!
Spain is the place to go for water sports enthusiasts, which is hardly surprising considering its immense coastline, islands, inland lakes and reservoirs, and thousands of kilometers of rivers and canals.
> Wind & kite-surfing: Fuerteventura or Tarifa
> Surfing: Mundaka is the most famous spot but Spain does offer other interesting surfing areas.
> Sailing: Thanks to its extended coastline, Spain offers a wide choice of marinas (some with over 1000 berths) but despite this, berths can be very difficult to find during the summer in some areas, although temporary berths can usually be found on public jetties and harbors. Moorings can be expensive, particularly in the most fashionable resorts and there is usually a lengthy waiting list. The cost of keeping a yacht on the Atlantic coast is cheaper than on the Mediterranean or in the islands, although it should be reasonable providing you steer clear of the most fashionable berths.
> Scuba-diving: Places like the Balearic & Canary islands have the best diving spots and the warmest weather temperatures. If you are not afraid of the cold, the Atlantic coast can also provide some interesting dives.
Skiing in Spain.
Behind Switzerland, Spain is the second most mountainous country in Europe. It offers excellent skiing despite its relatively southern latitude. Spanish ski resorts abound not only in the Pyrenees along the northern and eastern borders, but as far south as the Sierra Nevada in the Andalucian region of Spain. Resorts are also located close the major cities, including Madrid and Barcelona .The best resorts tend to be in the Pyrenees. The ski slopes outside Madrid are less advanced but offer the advantage that they can be reached in less than an hour through public transportation, car or by regular buses operated by ski clubs. A day of skiing is an easy day trip from Madrid in season, and gear can easily be rented for those travelling without their own.
